Happiness as a Priority: Dealing with thoughts that can arrest your happiness.

Being upset by your own thoughts is like smashing your head against a wall and wondering why your head hurts. It is quite intriguing that most of the time we cause ourselves pains through our thought. I have always been a victim of this act and whenever I does it happiness is far away from me.

But the good news is that learning to be happy is a very easy thing to do. To be sincere happiness is our natural state. If we can find a way to stop interfering with the flow (through our thoughts) we will definitely be happy always! So while life did not come with an instruction book on happiness, it really don't have to.

By following some really simple principles and also knowing how to get out of our own way (thoughts), we can be extremely happy, regardless of our present circumstances.

Learning how to be Happy from Kids

Think of a baby and how they easily get things off their mind! In other words, they aren't judgmental, vicious, jealous, angry or reactive and even when they do, it doesn't take too long for them to forget all about it! If you have witnessed where a mother beat her baby for misbehaving; after a loud cry, the baby will come back to the mother laughing and playing with her again as if nothing happened; this alone amazes me a lot about kids.

Dealing with our Thoughts

We are taught that our thoughts are real and that we should pay attention to them. "For as a man thinketh so is he." Problem arises when you think that they are just thoughts.

How to Dismiss Ugly Thoughts

Think of a time when you are washing your dishes. Your elder brother told you to be careful with the ceramics plate. Unfortunately the plate eventually slipped from your hand and broke into pieces on the ground.

Then afterwards you are eating your meal with your brothers and sisters, and oops Daddy learnt that you broke a plate. You start to think about the broken plate and you start to get depressed. You launch into a lecture about how uncaring and silly you are!

It is as if how the plate broke is happening all over again in the dining table. As you think about it you get more and more distressed, after all, you rationalize, he 'did told me to be careful!'

That's true he did told you to be careful with the plate, but let me show you how easy it is to dismiss that thought now that the incident is over. You are about to see that while the unfortunate incident did occur, it's now only a harmless thought with no power over you other than that which you give it! And once you realize this, happiness will be moments away.

Getting Rid of Bad Thoughts

Have you ever been walking majestically down the street at the far most corner of the road and a careless driver nearly knocked you off into the gutter; may be even within a foot or two of killing you. Whether it has happened to you or not, pretend for a moment that it did.

Imagine the thoughts that would be running through your mind while you were still angry. I can imagine the thought "Look at this drunkard nearly killed me with this crap, let me kill him at once!" being one of your thoughts or something similar relating to some sort of revenge. Now the question becomes "would you do it?" I mean, would you kill the driver like you thought? Of course you wouldn't.

And other than the fact that it's against the law and that you are a moral person, why wouldn't you act on that thought? The reason is simple: the thought was just like the thousands of other thoughts that run through your mind every single day. You realize it was just a thought and you promptly dismissed it.

Different from I Don’t Care Attitude

This doesn't mean you don't care , of course you do. But by dismissing the thought you put the event behind you opening the door for you to move into the present moment and be happy that you were not even killed from the incident.

This would not only make you to live a happy live but it will also push you out from troubles. Simple and peaceful life is inevitable when you take hold of your thoughts.

Today we live our live, that issue that have been troubling you is merely a thought carried through time, via our own thinking.

You have Power over your Thought

As long as you see it, not as a reality to contend with, but a simple thought, you are free to live right now, in this moment. Because thoughts are just thoughts (all of them) you have the power to drop any thought, at any time.

You are absolutely in charge and have the final say! This is the ultimate in taking responsibility of your own thoughts and feelings . Try this out and see if you could be happier with yourself.
